When did you know you were ready?

Becoming a father is said to be one of the most monumental events a man will ever experience in his entire life. For some, the knowledge of fatherhood looming towards them is seen a threat to their freedom. On the flip side, many are elated to be able to contribute to bringing life into the world. Flair Magazine asked: “At what point did you think you were ready to be a father?” Here are the responses:

At age 25, I decided I was ready for a child. It's one of those things where you feel you are ready for that next stage in life and want to be young enough to still be able to keep up with them.

My girlfriend left me alone to take care of our daughter, who was eight months old at the time, for five days. I was never left alone with her before. All I did was help out, but for five days I had to do everything on my own. Those five days really taught me how to be a daddy. It's a lot of work.

My son was seven weeks early. When I held him for the first time, I was overwhelmed. He was so small and helpless. I knew I had to do everything to protect him.

Alexander H, 39

I did not have everything I wanted. I didn't have enough money, she was still living with her parents. It was stress. A lot of stress. Everything for babies are expensive. But you just have to do what you have to do. You can never be ready.

Steve D, 26

It was something my wife and I were ready for. We planned for it and put everything in place. With her help, I was mentally ready for it.

Cadeem R, 45

It never hit me until the day she gave birth. During the pregnancy, you are aware of a baby, but you're not seeing a baby. Life continued as normal. Then when the baby reach, you really get the shock of your life.

Ryan F, 37

My wife and I decided that we wanted to adopt. The process took over a year and we were lucky to get a call since a lot of other families were waiting long before us. He got to spend every weekend with us, and it took some time adjusting to a baby in the house.

Raymond S, 37

I was young and fooling around and the young lady got pregnant. I felt like I got caught, and at the time, I had no idea what to do. I wasn't around, because I was young. It wasn't until some time passed that I got to meet my first daughter, and it was a beautiful feeling.
