Sex education, anyone?
THE EDITOR, Sir:
Quite refreshing, insightful and poignant, Michael hits the nail on the head (pun intended). For too long, out of ignorance, plain denial, religious dogmatism and sheer keeping our heads in the sand, the subject of sex has continued to be taboo and ascribed all manner of derogatory names.
Obviously, time has not stood by us in our futile attempts to be churlish and carefree about the matter. But who's to blame? The hapless victims are now our children. Mom won't speak about it (she may be clueless), dad is dead silent, the church is worst (it's a holy place), and so the alternative stands ready (that's where the danger lies) "you show me yours and I'll show you mine". Not to be outdone is the all too available (in) glorious Internet access which speaks volumes; porn sites pop up at will!
So really, where do we begin? Sex education, anyone? Let's start the conversation ...
